Examples of FM systems available:

•Phonak has several different types of wireless FM systems which are used to improve signal to noise ratios in noisy environments.  There are different FM systems used for different applications:
•Example #1:  Wireless transmitter and integrated receiver.  There are some hearing aids available from Phonak which allow for an integrated wireless FM solution.   The transmitter types seen on the left transmit sound directly to the receivers attached to the hearing aids on the right.  For more information on these particular FM applications please click on this link:

•Oticon also has several FM system options which can be exclusively used with Oticon hearing aids.
•Example #2:   Oticon trasmitter and receiver options.  For more information on Oticon FM systems please click on this link:

•Example #3:  Wireless Transmitter and receiver.  Receiver can be plugged into any behind the ear  hearing aid provided the appropriate audio shoe is attached.  The tiny receiver pictured below is plugged into the audio shoe which is then connected to the hearing aid.  There are several FM transmitters and receivers available….please contact your hearing professional to find out which solution best suits your needs.

•Example #4:  There are FM solutions available to people wearing in the ear hearing aids and behind the ear hearing aids provided there is a telecoil built into these hearing aids.  Both Phonak and Oticon have similar systems which work with any telecoil hearing aid system.  There is a transmitter which transmits sound to the appropriate loop receiver which hangs around the neck.  If you have a pacemaker this application should not be used.

•People who wear cochlear implants can also use many different FM systems.  What system works best relies heavily on the particular implant device and age of the person wearing the cochlear implant.  We have outlined some options below for all implant manufacturers  but please do not hesitate to contact you cochlear implant center for more specific information.  There are integrated solutions whereby a receiver is plugged into the cochlear implant processing device either directly into the device or through a type of connector.  Every manufacturer has it’s own proprietary connectors which allow for insertion of the FM receiver.  If the implant processor is equipped with a telecoil then any loop FM system may be also used in lieu of the FM receiver connection.
